Julie Edel Hardenberg also called Paneeraq, is an Inuk Kalaaleq, visual/multimedia artist and a researcher, born and raised in Nuuk, Kalaallit Nunaat/Greenland. She studied art in Finland, Norway and England before gaining her MA in Art theory and Communication at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. She lives and works in Copenhagen where she has acquired the Novo Nordisk Foundation – Mads Øvlisen PhD scholarship in her practice-based artistic research: “Between power and powerlessness – the de/colonized mind ” -that examens the embodied experiences and how colonialism has not only transformed the history of geographical places, but also the bodies that inhabit the places today. She is affiliated to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and University of Copenhagen in addition she studies to become a psychotherapist.
For the past 30 years, she has worked with identity and post- de/colonial perspectives as an overall theme. With roots in Inuit and Nordic cultures, also being multilingual (Inuit Kalaallisut, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, English) she has an insight into different Inuit-Kalaallit identities and self-understanding. At the same time, her work explores the economic and social interdependencies between Denmark and Kalaallit Nunaat/Greenland and their impact on Inuit – Kalaallit, caught in a shared identity between power and powerlessness.
Hardenberg has produced five books besides international exhibitions, recognition and public tasks. Her work has been honorary appointed or nominated by: Nordic Council Literature Prize; Danish Association of Book Craft; Vest Nordic Childrens Literature Prize; White Raven Book – International Youth Library; Liviafond Prize; Carnegie Art Award; Anna Norlander Priset, Henry Heerup honorary scholarship; In 2022 her contribution to the project Voices in the Shadows of Monuments was awarded a prize by the Danish Arts Council.

DANSK:
Julie Edel Hardenberg er Inuk Kalaaleq, født og opvokset i Nuuk, Kalaallit Nunaat/Grønland. Hun er uddannet billedkunstner i Finland, Norge, England og har efterfølgende opnået en MA i Kunstteori og Formidling fra Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademi. I 2022 modtog hun Novo Nordisk Fondens Mads Øvlisen ph.d. stipendium i praksisbaseret kunstnerisk forskning med titlen: ”Mellem magt og afmagt – det af/koloniserede sind”. Hun er tilknyttet Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademi og København Universitet, foruden sin igangværende uddannelse til psykoterapeut igennem Psykoterapeutisk Institut i København.
Hun har igennem de sidste 30 år arbejdet med temaer omkring identitet og koloniale forhold. Med rødder i både Inuit og Nordisk kultur og som multisproget (Inuit Kalaallisut, Dansk, Norsk, Svensk, Engelsk) har hun et indblik i forskellige Inuit Kalaallits identitet og selvforståelse – ikke mindst det økonomiske og sociale afhængighedsforhold der eksisterer imellem de to lande og dens indvirkning på Inuit Kalaallit; fanget i en delt identitet, mellem magt og afmagt.
Foruden internationale udstillinger, udsmykninger og anerkendelser har hun produceret 5 bøger samt modtaget pris/nomineringer til Nordisk Råds Litteraturpris; Dansk Forening for Boghåndværk; Vestnordisk børnelitteraturpris; White Raven Book – International Youth Library; Liviafond Prize; Carnegie Art Award; Anna Norlander Priset; Henry Heerup Hæderslegat; I 2022 blev hendes bidrag i projektet Stemmer i skyggen af monumenter præmieret af Statens Kunstfonds Legatudvalg for Billedkunst.
